Biostatistics, Epidemiology/Population Health, & Interpretation of the Medical Literature

  • Study design, types and selection of studies (includes dependent/independent variables)
  • Measures of association
  • Study interpretation, drawing conclusions from data
  • Clinical decision making, interpretation and use of evidence-based data and
    recommendations

Social Sciences

  • Communication and interpersonal skills, including health literacy and numeracy, cultural competence
    • Patient interviewing, consultation, and interactions with the family (patient- centered communication skills)
      • enabling patient behaviors (eg, education and counseling)

Assignment Instructions - Start Here

  • Your presentation will be focused upon  a patient.
    • POM V: Your presentation will be focused upon either your HxPx patient and a patient that you observed during a PACE visit (M1 or M2 year). 
    • POM VI: Your presentation will be focused upon a patient you observed during a PACE patient in POM V or POM VI. If you your POM V presentation was focused on a PACE patient, your POM VI presentation should be focused on a different patient.

  • Your presentation should be 10-12 minutes in length.  

Presentation Content:

  • Provide background information that may help your audience better understand your presentation topic.
  • Provide relevant patient information about the patient. Do not include the actual name of your patient. You can provide a fake name or fake initials.
  • Provide your clinical question.
  • Explain what resources will be needed to answer the clinical question.

STEP 1: Provide Information about Your Patient and the Clinical Encounter:

  • Provide information the patient case. Use a pseudonym or fake initials for the patient. 
  • Provide relevant demographic information
  • Provide information about the clinical case.
  • Provide information about any lab results. (You may not have access to them as a PACE student. You will as a clerkship student).
