Today's food portions being served at restaurants and bought at grocery stores are larger than ever. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the portions are two or three times larger than they were twenty years ago. The calories in these portions add up, as many as 1,595 more calories a day, but with this knowledge, you can make better choices when choosing your food. The chart below illustrates the change in food size over the twenty years and you also read the full write-up from NHLBI for more information.
