NIH Submission process chart - This chart provides detailed information for each of the four submission methods listed below.
There are 4 ways to submit your paper:
Method A - Journal deposits final published articles in PubMed Central. No author involvement. NIH Link to list of participating journals / publishers. You can check with the journal to verify that it is a participating journal.
Method B - Author asks publisher to deposit specific final published article in PMC
Method C - Author or Designee deposits final peer-reviewed manuscript in PMC via the NIH Manuscript Submission System* (NIHMS). Method C author tutorial video.
Method D - Author completes submission of final peer-reviewed manuscript deposited by publisher in the NIHMS. Method D author tutorial video.
*What is the NIHMS? The NIH Manuscript Submission System is the electronic way to submit your article for PMC inclusion.
