Each month, the Northeast Ohio Medical University Library sponsored by the Wish, Cope and Life Foundation at SCF will follow in the footsteps of several well known health organizations and raise awareness about a different health condition each month. Under this tab will be special information and focus about each monthly feature. Check out the university library for more resources and activities throughout the month as we spread awareness about the health conditions that can effect us and the ones we love.
The month of May is American Stroke Month. Strokes happen due to a cut off in the blood supply to the brain due to bleeds or blocked vessels in the brain. A stroke can lead to death, but not always. Those who survive strokes may need speech, physical and other forms of therapy to fully recover. The risk of having a stroke can be decreased by lifestyle changes and managing your health. Use the infographics and online resources below to learn more about strokes and how to prevent them. Be sure to wear red this month to honor American Stroke Month and those effected by strokes.
