Each month, the Northeast Ohio Medical University Library sponsored by the Wish, Cope and Life Foundation at SCF will follow in the footsteps of several well known health organizations and raise awareness about a different health condition each month. Under this tab will be special information and focus about each monthly feature. Check out the university library for more resources and activities throughout the month as we spread awareness about the health conditions that can effect us and the ones we love.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention documents 240,000 new cases of breast cancer in women and 2,1000 new cases in men each year in the United States. Two of the biggest risk factors for breast cancer include aging and being a woman. Screening methods help detect breast cancer early. This early detection results in earlier treatment, which can decrease the risk of death. Be sure to wear pink this month to honor those we have lost to breast cancer and those who are still fighting the battle.
