Examples of AMA citations:

Journal Article, up to 5 authors: 

Format: Author(s). Article title. Journal Title. Publication Date; volume(issue*):page numbers.

*Only include issue number if journal not consecutively numbered.

To cite in text using AMA, you will use superscripts just behind the idea you are citing. 

Superscript numbers are placed outside periods and commas, and inside colons and semicolons. To cite more than 1 article with the same idea, use commas to separate two references1,2. 

Example: 

The growing public concern, and evolving policies and legislation, affect prescribers’ attitudes and beliefs concerning opioid use for the treatment of patients with chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP), which in turn affects prescribing practices.¹
