All images posted on the course management system should:
- be in the public domain; OR
- be permissible for educational use; OR
- have a creative commons license; OR
- be your own image; OR
- be cited and/or include a proper attribution
If you're uncertain about whether or not your images qualify, you are welcome to contact the library for guidance. Please note: library staff typically need 2-3 weeks to process image copyright requests, especially when slide decks contain multiple images.
The Library will:
- help faculty, staff, and students locate alternative permissible images for use in course lectures (public domain or creative commons licensed images only)
- provide guidance on how to obtain permissions for images in publications
- point faculty, staff, and students to relevant databases, image attribution generators, and sections of copyright law (for the researcher to interpret)
The Library will not:
- make definitive answers on whether or not an image is violating copyright, unless the image has an assigned creative commons license or is in the public domain
- request permissions for the individual
- interpret copyright law(s)
