Fair Use Overview

Fair use is defined as a doctrine which permits limited portions of a copyrighted work to be used without requesting permission from the copyright holder. Using a checklist is essential in making sure that you are within the standards of Fair Use. Each situation is different and requires it's own checklist. We advise faculty to complete the checklist for EACH Fair Use decision they make. Also, it is imperative that a record is kept on file.
