About OORMIC

About the Library

The Northeast Ohio University of Medicine (NEOMED) Kohli Center Library is an active partner in education and research of the students, faculty and staff of the Colleges. The Library was established in 1973 as the Basic Medical Sciences Library. The Library serves as a Resource Library for the Greater Midwest Region National Network of Libraries of Medicine and is open 69.5 hours per week during the school year with an average of 5,175 visits per month.

The library staff consists of 3 librarians, 2.5 support staff, and student assistants. The library programs and resources support the Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Masters of Public Health curriculum. There are opportunities for faculty, preceptors, and students to learn effective and efficient use of the library and other educational resources through course-integrated library instruction. For instance, the library is a partner in instruction during evidence-based medicine courses in the College of Pharmacy curriculum and teaches how to search the peer reviewed literature using PubMed and how to use evidence based medicine databases and online resources. Additional library services include reference assistance, document delivery, interlibrary loan, photocopy services, and course reserves. Computer access to library resources is available onsite and remotely.

In 1993, the Library became a member of the Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK), a consortium of Ohio college and university libraries. The Library online catalog (NEOLINK) contains the collective holdings of NEOMED and 7 Associated Hospital Libraries. These combined holdings allow students access to clinical texts as well as the basic medical science materials in the NEOMED Library. The Associated Hospital Libraries support the information needs of students, faculty, staff, and health care professionals of NEOMED and its associated institutions. The libraries work together to develop consortium-wide communications, education, health science information resources and services.
